HEY EVERYONE!

Welcome to the Lotus sisters blog! We will be sharing our experiences and opinions on different topics. We also want this to be a safe space for all of our Kreyol and Caribbean sisters to share their viewpoints while creating a sisterhood, so don’t be shy ladies! This is raw and uncut.

This week’s blog we will be discussing the importance of finding oneself, especially during this COVID-19 debacle. During this time of being told to stay home, We thought it would be essential to take the time to reflect on our lives, really think about all the things that we’ve done in the past; good and bad. It’s also a good time to look at all the things we’ve accomplished these past couple of years, and see what we can do this year to go out with an even bigger BANG ! In a nutshell, this blog is all about creating a foundation in which we find ourselves, and truly embrace our strengths as well as our weaknesses.

What are some things you’ve done to better/find yourself during this time?

Being quarantined; although not voluntary, has taught us to be still. People may not agree, but there is a light at the end of this tunnel. Not only can we use this time to grow mentally, but we can use this time to grow emotionally and physically as well (despite the binge eating).

A lot of times we tend to find ourselves in a space of uncertainty, not knowing what our next move or endeavor is going to be, and in order to fill that space we spend most of our time doing things that don’t necessarily benefit us in the long run, it just distracts us from our full potential. Now that those distractions are removed from society right now, we are forced to create new norms for ourselves with the biggest one being self-reflection.

We know that finding oneself doesn’t happen overnight (speaking from experiences)but creating a blueprint of what you want your life to be like moving forward is the first step. With everything that is going on in the world right now, the last thing we want to do is become comfortable in our current situation. In order to help guide you in the right direction, we’ve come up with 10 things you can do to begin your journey to a better “you”:

  1. Read a book or many- This may be cliché to most, but reading is fundamental. You’ll be surprised by all the things you can learn about yourself by reading a good book.
  2. Start a blog- one of our favorites on the list because well, hellur. Seriously, blogging helps get our creative juices flowing. It’s also a great stress reliever.
  3. Sage your house/apartment- I’m not sure if anyone reading this is spiritual, but saging is amazing. It rids your space and aura of all negative energy.
  4. Learning a new hobby- learning how to do hair, sew, cook, dance, sing, write poetry, shall I go on?
  5. Work on your current relationships- whether its family or a significant other. If you’re quarantined with people and the relationship is rocky; Now would be the time to fix it, or decide to let bygones be bygones.
  6. Become closer to GOD (or whomever you believe in religiously)- we are huge believers in a higher power, and what better time to restore our faith than now.
  7. Declutter your home- get rid of clothes, shoes and items that you haven’t worn or used in years. You can declutter your mind by decluttering your home.
  8. Start your diet- this may be a hard one due to the fact that we eat when we’re bored and all of the gyms are closed. But we can start by eating healthier, and doing workouts at home everyday.
  9. Work on your finances- this is an important one. A lot of us have financial issues, even before this pandemic, but now you can actually work on your shopping problems, pay off some debt, do your taxes, and figure out a way to start spending wisely and saving some money.
  10. Take an online class- what a better time to get that degree you’ve always wanted.

There are other things that you can do to manifest the person you want to be when this quarantine is over, we just want to make sure that you actually take those baby steps to get there. If this quarantine doesn’t teach you anything, I hope it teaches you to never take life for granted. Make sure that every breath and every decision you make, moving forward, count.

Remember ladies, our true self doesn’t come from our outer-life, it comes from our inner-life.
